A significant fire erupted in an aged plastic warehouse situated in the Pragati Maidan police station area of Kolkata, West Bengal, at approximately 3:00 am on Wednesday. The warehouse, positioned near the Basanti Highway coal depot, is surrounded by various small and large shops.
The Kolkata Police, promptly informed about the incident, along with three fire department vehicles, rushed to the scene. Despite immediate efforts to contain the fire by surrounding it with water, the presence of inflammable plastic items led to an escalation of the flames.
As of 11:00 am, the fire remains uncontrolled, although it has been contained from spreading further. Six fire brigade vehicles are currently deployed at the site, with a senior fire department official stating that the challenge stems from the warehouse's nature, primarily housing plastic materials. The official expressed confidence in extinguishing the fire soon.
